Revision as of 04:23, 1 September 2026 by Life(talk | contribs)(add intermediate Anvil component recipes (Plates/Rods/Foil/Golden Shield Frame) and fill in Gold Plate/Golden Shield Frame/Volcanic Ward crafting costs)
Smithing turns mined ore into bars at a Furnace, then bars into wearable gear at an Anvil. The short version: mine ore → smelt it into bars → craft the bars into gear. You earn XP twice for every bar: once when it's smelted, again when it's used in crafting.
Only Helmets reliably turn a profit if you're buying your bars outright: Platebodies, Platelegs, and Swords all lose gold at Bronze/Iron/Steel tier once the cost of the bars is factored in. Once you reach level 30 and unlock Mithril, everything becomes very profitable, especially the Mithril Sword.
Mithril, Gold, and Ebony Bars can't be bought at any stall; you either smelt them yourself or buy them from another player.
Smithing Gear
Everything below is crafted at an Anvil. The level to wear or wield a finished piece is separate from the Smithing level needed to craft it.
Intermediate Components
Higher-tier gear (Mining Gloves, Golden Shield Frame, Dusk Knight armour) isn't smithed directly from bars, it needs these Anvil-crafted components first. Bars are shaped into Plates and Rods, and some Plates/Rods are then combined into "Large" versions or Foil.
Smithing has two distinct steps, Smelting (ore into bars) and Smithing (bars into gear), and you get XP for both: once per bar smelted, and again for every bar spent crafting.
Tier
Smelting XP per Bar
Bronze
15
Iron
30
Steel
55
Mithril
155
Gold
800
Ebony
1,800
For example, a Mithril Sword needs 6 Mithril Bars: smelting them gives 6 × 155 = 930 XP, and crafting the sword itself gives another 930 XP, for 1,860 XP total.
XP and Profit per Hour
These figures assume a full 28-slot inventory per cycle, real travel time between stations, and no downtime; treat them as upper bounds rather than guarantees. Bronze/Iron/Steel routes buy bars and sell finished items at the Blacksmith Stall in Valen Gate (except Iron Helmets, which are more profitable buying bars at Grave Town since they're 4g cheaper there). Mithril and Gold routes assume the ore/bars are already banked, since neither can be bought.
Bronze Tier (8g buy / 4g sell per bar, Valen Gate)
Selling raw Mithril Bars barely profits at all; crafting them into a Mithril Sword is roughly 68 times more profitable per hour than selling the bars, and it's also the best XP/hour item in the whole skill. Craft it whenever you've got Mithril Bars banked and Smithing 34+.
Gold Tier (Gold Ore/Dust can't be bought; must be mined)
Gold Plate (8x Gold Bar, level 40, 400 XP, 15s) and Golden Shield Frame (5x Gold Plate + 3x Gold Bar + 2x Steel Rod + 2x Steel Bar, level 50, 1,000 XP, 60s) now have known ingredients, but their XP/hr and profit/hr aren't listed here since that needs measured travel/logistics data, not just the raw recipe. Volcanic Ring has a confirmed recipe (see its own page). Volcanic Ward's recipe (1x Volcanic Core + 1x Golden Shield Frame + 2x Gold Bar, level 60, 45s) is known but its exact Smithing XP isn't confirmed yet.
Each of the four Dusk Knight pieces is assembled at an Anvil from several smaller sub-components (also crafted at an Anvil), plus Ebony Bar/Ebony Plate/Large Ebony Plate/Silver Foil and an Exquisite Silk lining. A Dusk Knight Schematics is consumed once per final piece to unlock its recipe list, but is NOT consumed by any individual sub-component or the final assembly itself (it acts as a catalyst/tool, not an ingredient). See each piece's own page for its full ingredient list.
Ebony Dust totals assume every intermediate (Ebony Bar, Small/Large Ebony Plate, Small/Large Ebony Rod) is smelted from raw Ebony Dust rather than Ebony Ore (7 Dust = 1 Ebony Bar), and exclude the separate Silver Foil chain, Exquisite Silk linings, and the Dusk Knight Schematics catalyst (consumed once per final piece, not per sub-component). Costs/XP-per-hour aren't listed here since the sub-component materials don't have confirmed vendor prices.
Buying bars, smithing them into Helmets, and selling to a vendor is one of the best early-game gold methods: Helmets need fewer bars, sell for good vendor value, and don't require any Mining. Every other craftable (Platebody, Platelegs, Swords) actually loses gold at Bronze/Iron/Steel tier once the bar cost is factored in, since the bars cost more than the finished item sells for.
Buy bars from a stall or another player → smith Helmets → sell to a vendor → repeat.
Everything else at these tiers trains XP but loses gold; only worth it for training if you can absorb the loss, or if you're smelting your own bars instead of buying them.
Once you hit Smithing 30, switch to Mithril: every Mithril item is highly profitable, and the Mithril Sword is the best item in the guide for both XP and gold per hour.
